Elizabeth Peyton / Portrait of an Artist

After cataloging 17 images from Elizabeth Peyton / Portrait of an Artist, I have gained a new appreciation for those networks of support that grow around an artist. “All significant art is reflective of the particular time and place of its making. Part of this specificity is the artist’s social milieu: the web of personal relationships that defines-and informs-an artist’s life.” (Peyton, 7) Even among my humble network of visual and performing artists I find an endless font of inspiration.

In this body of work Peyton, who is primarily known as a painter, has collected the photographic studies for many of her paintings into a single volume.
