2008-2009 Reserve Materials Image Cataloging

Cataloging project entailing the scanning, editing, formatting, uploading and meta-data research of images from the permanent reserve stacks of SCAD’s Jen Library.

Summer 2009 Mesoamerican Image cataloging Project

In support of Dr. Jane Rehl’s Ethnographic Art, and Pre-Columbian Art and Architecture of Mesoamerica 1193 images were scanned, edited and cataloged.

2009 -2010 Documentary Photography Project

Cataloging project entailing the scanning, editing, formatting, uploading and meta-data research of documentary photographic works.

2009-2010 Don Bluth Animation Project

Collaborative project with the Special Collections Department of Jen Library for SCAD, we are working to create a digital collection from the Don Bluth Animation Collection. We will be cataloging images of animation cells, original concept and concept drawings, story boards, and other materials in support of SCAD’s Animation Department.

2010-2011 Collaborative Collection Development Project

In order to bridge the disparity between content the students are required to pursue and content the students are interested in and inquiring about, the Image Cataloger will consult with librarians from the reference department to gain a better understanding of the sorts of imagery the students are asking for. It is the intention of the Image Cataloger to maintain this collaboration for the following year.

2010-2011 Special Collections Sequential Art Project

The Image Cataloger will collaborate with the Special Collections department to establish projects from the graphic novels and sequential art housed there. This is in support of the Sequential Art department.

2010-2011 Social Networking Project

The Image Cataloger will begin posting information on the cataloging and image acquisition activities of all VRC staff members on the department’s social networking sites (Facebook, Twitter, etc.). He will also collaborate with other library departments to reference activities posted on other departments’ social media. The Image Cataloger will continue to maintain the Facebook Fan Page for the Visual Resources Center. The Image Cataloger will also continue to maintain the twitter account.

2011, Expanded Reference Services

The librarian will provide online reference services via a Meebo Notifier account. He will also check the Reference Departmental email account for reference queries. He will track reference statistics in a Reference Log.

2011, Digital Image Database Subject Term Handouts

Utilizing the Getty Research Institute’s Art & Architecture Thesaurus, with in-house additions and modifications, create a series of subject term guides to assist the reference department in navigating the Digital Image Database. Subject guides will be created for the following areas:

  • Cinema, Film & Television
  • Performing Arts & Production Design
  • Motion Media & Interactive Gaming
  • Visual Effects
  • Graphic Design
  • Advertising
  • Illustration
  • Sequential Art
  • Animation
  • Photography
  • Architectural History
  • Interior Design
  • Architecture & Urban Design
  • Industrial Design

2011 – present, Digital Assets Management System Acquisition

  • Establish a list of desirable criteria for GSU’s Department of University Relations
  • Explore vendors and their products to identify a suitable system
  • Collaborate with entities within and without the department to ensure system is a good fit for our needs
  • Set up a series of demos, trials, and usability tests for desirable DAM products
